Neil Sattin Interviewed By Dog Obedience Training Online

May 6th, 2010 by Neil

Recently I was approached by Tobias Lansley of Dog Obedience Training Online for an interview. It’s always interesting to talk to people who have no preconceived notion of what Natural Dog Training is, or how I train – particularly because the questions can take us into unexpected territory. Tobias’s site is set up as a resource for people all across the dog training spectrum, so hopefully it will be an opportunity for others who might never have come across Natural Dog Training to have their curiosity piqued.

In this written interview we cover:

  • Why Natural Dog Training is such a fun way to train, and what makes it different from other ways of training (see why I call my dog a “nutjob”)
  • My opinion of Cesar Milan (uh-oh! whisper whisper)
  • A discussion of shock e-collars (and the search for the perfect robo-dog)
  • The absolute best breeds (I hope yours is on the list!)
  • The best way to crate train a dog
  • Resolving Aggression (you know this is a subject near and dear to me)
  • And…much, much, more! (seriously)

Please head over to Dog Obedience Training Online to read the interview (click this link), and let me know what you think!

If you’re feeling bad because your dog isn’t on my definitive list of the best dog breeds, you can discuss that in this thread over at the Natural Dog Blog forum.

Listen to the Conference Call with Kevin Behan and Neil Sattin

April 26th, 2010 by Neil

As a follow-up to the interview that I did with Kevin Behan at the beginning of the month, we conducted a live Q&A conference call a couple weeks later.  We had some great questions from callers all over the country, and I thought you would appreciate being able to hear the results.  On this call, we cover questions such as:

  • Dog aggression (with a guest’s dog, dog’s on walks, between females, etc.)
  • The needs of a multiple-dog household
  • How a change in your habits can affect your dog
  • The ideal way to handle Socialization and Walks with a younger dog
  • How to help a dog who flips out with hyperfriendliness when  you come home
  • Teaching your dog to bark – the right way
  • Increasing a dog’s desire to play
  • And more!

And here is the conference call, in its entirety, for your listening pleasure.  Enjoy!

During the call, we mentioned a few articles and techniques.  Here are the relevant links for you:

Neil Sattin’s article on What to Do When Your Dog Is Aggressive

Neil Sattin’s article on Teaching Your Dog to Bark (aka “Where’s the Danger?” or “Predator”)

Kevin Behan’s YouTube video on taking your dog to the vet (link here, embedded video below)

I am going to be posting more interviews and, if we’re lucky, more free conference calls over the coming months – so stay tuned.  If you have any suggestions for people you’d like me to interview, please let me know.  In the meantime, keep moosing!
