So I know that Neil had posted this on the Natural Dog Blog quite a while ago, but I'm not sure if everyone is aware of it. Kevin has some segments from his show, Quantum Canine on his site, but there are also some full episodes here:
Falls Area Community TV: FACT TV Media Gallery : Quantum Canine If you haven't seen the show, it's definitely worth a look. You'll need a relatively fast internet connection to watch it. Just wanted to share that. Last edited by Sang; 03-30-2010 at 02:50 AM. |

I just watched episode 16 on pushing, energy flow and the emotional battery.
Wow. I feel sad, sweet little Lou's energy must be stuck stuck stuck and so his battery is full to the point of backed up. No wonder he is sooo easily triggered. If energy has to be released the same way it went in then I have to wonder what it was that people did to him in his early life. People are his biggest trigger. He doesn't seem to have the physical energy (or maybe it's interest) to push every single time he's triggered (oh about 100 times a day). And by triggered I mean he does the BIG BARKS or big bark and charge. We will keep on push playing, at least 2x a day, until his energy is flowing and his system isn't backed up anymore. In the mean time I do see improvement: he is coming when called about 95% and I'm still handing out food for it (I am still less interesting than deer). I'm beginning to see him BARK and run (sometimes for no reason that I can see) only to turn his head and look back at me for a second as if he's looking for redirection. Behan speaks of intentionally triggering the dog's fear and then pushing, over and over until the thing doesn't trigger the dog anymore. Very interesting. I wonder about how many days/weeks/months this would take. |

It really depends on the dog, as every dog is different. It's a matter of when his heart starts to figure out that it's just not worth expending the energy over the old trigger anymore.

Interesting Sang. About a week ago I was outside with my dog doing the usual when the neighbor came walking over. Of course my dog got super excited and friendly but while I was holding her and getting ready for a push she all of a sudden stopped (complete 180). I could tell she wasn't feeling well as she slowed and mouth began to slobber. Then she vomited a few times and lied down by the lady and her young son. I assumed she had eaten something she shouldn't have and was just feeling the effects but I began thinking maybe she had just made herself sick with the excitement. Since then she has seemed calmer, and we took her on a 5 day road trip and she seemed to be calmer during it as well (part of it is the fact that she was much more mentally stimulated - new smells, dogs, people, etc.). This may be a bit premature but maybe her heart decided it's not worth expending that energy anymore.
