Just thought I'd say 'Hey' and hope to be talking with many of you NDTers. I live in Central Maine and have 3 dogs: Bodie, Duncan & Diva. Bodie is an 8-year old yellow lab, Duncan is a 4-year old GSD/lab/husky mix and Diva is an almost 4-year old Alaskan Husky/GSD mix.
Bodie offers the fewest challenges (adopted from a reputable breeder) while Duncan & Diva offer the most challenges (adopted from a shelter). I'd have to say that, it's quite likely, most of Duncan's issues were either created by me or a result of using the wrong training methods. Diva came with a bunch of issues as she was left in the backyard with her littermates and only saw the owner when he threw down food and water for them. He'd turn and walk away with out so much as a word of encouragement or a pat. Her issues were further exacerbated by a string of failed adoptions (5 I believe). I've been in touch with NDT since the fall of 2009. My success is only dampened by lack of proper/consistent foundation work. That's why I'm here...to view all your conversations in hopes to get my rear-in-gear and do the hard work! lol

Hey Christine,
I've followed your stories with your pups for a while now. Glad you are here ![]() Try to think of it as playtime, not work. I know that when the dogs' specific "opportunities" include putting their teeth on other people/dogs, that this feels like serious business. But I really think I see more forward movement with Lou when I am playing instead of working him. |
