Just wanted to say hello to everyone.
I've been following this forum for a month now and I am so greatful for all the useful information and advice available. The DVD also arrived a few weeks back. Thanks Neil, it's a great DVD. My name is Eleni and I live in Upper Hutt, New Zealand with my husband, a cat and now a wonderful pup that we adopted 6 weeks ago from the local Spca. His name is Mach (mach1, since he's the first- yes, he is that fast!) and he's a 5 month old Grayhound/Mastiff/Something cross. He has a lovely temperament but he's puppy and doesn't let me forget it! Great pray drive, a good nose and buckets loads of curiousity make him a bit of a handfull on walks. Oh, he also wants to eat the cat! Other that that he is perfect! Same as most of the members here, I was looking for a better way to train my new dog and neither +R or dominance training (there is nothing Alpha about me!!!!) spoke to me. I wanted to have an emotional connection with my dog not to have a "doggy robot" as Neil has put it. We did try puppy training class once, and I could not get him to settle down for two days after. I knew immediately that it was doing more harm than good so I decided to pull him out and find another way. That is how I found NDT and I've been working on my mooseness ever since. We've been doing only "pushing", "tag" and lots of play since he's still young, plus some redirection on walks. He loves it, some days more that others but from reading this forum it seems that is normal. I noticed a tendency in him now to turn and look at me when something gets his interest and on few occasions he asked for a push without me saying anything! That must be good! I am actually so impressed with NDT that I started telling everyone I know about it (I sound a bit like a crazy street preacher but hey, whatever gets the message out! Right? )We'll be around, following the forum and posting if any questions arise. Again thanks to Neil and everyone posting, it is a great resource for someone that is half way around the world and has no other access to this method of training. Cheers Eleni P.S: Hi Chris. We were in Taupo last week but never got the time to come by your hangar and say hello; busy catching and eating Trout! Yummy! Next time maybe. |

Welcome aboard! Your pup is a cutie.
![]() Who would have thought we'd have 2 NDTers from New Zealand in the forums? Pretty cool.
