Default Hi everyone!

So, I rescued a Shiba Inu, decided he needed a lot of training, read a million (not really but it sure felt like it) books about dog behavior, training, history, health, and whatnot. I tried everything with my Shiba, from dominance training to clicker training. He did really well with the clicker and I still use it once in a while. Through another dog forum I found "Natural Dog Training" by Kevin Behan and was confused and fascinated at the same time. With this method I could actually imagine my Shiba eventually coming when called.
I just started watching Neil's DVDs and am practicing Pushing which seems to go really well! I'm so glad to have found a method of dog training that actually makes sense to me.

I may not be posting much right now but have been a silent reader on this forum for a while now

Welcome! Shibas are awesome dogs. A friend of mine has an all white one, which I think is pretty rare. We call him the Arctic Fox.

Money's a little tight right now, but when I'm a bit more flush I'm definitely going to be purchasing Neil's DVD. I feel like I need to see some of this stuff demonstrated.

Shiba are awesome dogs if you understand and respect their nature, yes ;o)
I too felt the same about some of the things I read in the book. I needed to see how it's done rather than guessing when trying it on my own dog

El Fug;

The DVD definitely helps explain everything step-by-step. I also recommend going to Kevin's site (The Official Natural Dog Training Website: News, Discussions, Advice, Training Tips and Techniques from Kevin Behan) and watching the videos of him using the pushing exercise as well as some of the other training.

Default Thanks, donnieo

I have looked at all of the videos at Kevin's site, and they're very helpful. I think a step-by-step would be very beneficial to me though.

I think that I read somewhere that Kevin is going to be publishing a version of his book that has been newly revised. I'll definitely be getting that as well.

The DVDs definitely help A LOT. Very clear instructions that help you understand the book much better. I always do better when I am shown how things are done so the DVDs are perfect for me

I definitely enjoyed the DVDs, and what I found was that they gave the videos on Kevin's site more context: I could understand what he was doing and why he was doing it.
