This is a scene from THX 1138, George Lucas' first film. The dystopian future that it is set in is in a place where the world's citizens are forced to take drugs that numb the feelings and intimate human contact (i.e. sexuality) is suppressed and punished. In this scene, THX 1138 (Robert Duvall) has just been incarcerated for not taking his drugs and then having a feeling. The robot police stun him into a state of helplessness and emotional collapse.
This isn't far from what our society is doing to our dogs and indeed, ourselves. This particular scene popped into my head once while I was reading about learned helplessness via dominance training and I thought I'd share it.
