Inlaws were in town this weekend.
Sunday afternoon Lou jumped up in FIL's lap - let him pet him and was fine. After about 30 seconds of this *I* started vibrating and got Lou down Baby steps.Lou wandered freely in the house Sunday afternoon and was fine with them. When we would come back to the house after we'd be out, I'd take the dogs out another door as they were coming in. We'd do some 2-3 pushes, some wall climbing and back inside. He was fine. MIL is really afraid of Lou, afraid of all dogs. She told me some story of a dog who had been a biter but had been trained to not do it. But years later the mother in law of the dog walked across the room and the dog attacked her and she almost bled to death.... Interesting. Lou still gets panicky around her. If she comes in/out of a room, or steps out of a doorway near Lou he whines or even shrieks/lunges. So, he spent a lot of the weekend, if we were inside, on a box. We spent a lot of time outside - walking in the park, out on the deck, etc. I'm sure that helps. All of us walked on a VERY busy trail - dogs, kids, bikes, and geese (cocker spaniel crack). Lou did beautifully! I did a little bit of prep work before they arrived. The evening before he went on a 5 mile run with me (3-4 is normal so this was a little bit more than usual) and he came back sooooo relaxed that he was calm around my neighbor even. Then, just before inlaws arrived, we did a lot of pushing and panic work. When they arrived I let him go through a panic freak out session until he built up enough steam to bite a little, a little tug. All in all, a good weekend. Baby steps. |
