Default reactive towards ponies

high all, been following ndt for some time now,,i have a question and wonder if someone can help,,
my partner has 2 ponies beside her house, and my dog is reactive towards them , she has a jack russel that has no issues with them at all,
i have tried getting my dog to tug near the ponies but the interest in the ponies is greater,
he does push for food in a fashion but will break off interest after a while and will not eat as much pushing as he would out of the bowl,
any comments greatly welcomed, john,Ireland
P,S, i know there may be an issue between me and the ponies involving the dog but can't make any sort of a break through,,thanks

First things first, if he’s not giving you all his energy in the pushing, then I would recommend you stop feeding him from his bowl. Until he can give you all his energy, the only time he gets fed is when you push with him.

Right now he hasn’t built up enough attraction to you to be able to sustain a connection when stimulated. So try working him away from the ponies rather than near them. Once he’s built up his emotional capacity and a stronger attraction to you, then try taking him back to the ponies.

Another problem i was wondering if ndt could help me with is i have a dog here who hate flies ,but who cant seem to make the link between finding fox poop ,then wearing the fox poop as a necklace and the 3 dozen flies trying to eat her, rant over,
i feel myself its probably beyond the scope of ndt, thanks again Sang,

I think your'e on the right track. The one thing I would change up right now though is to restrict his access to the ponies until he's got a stronger push and will play tug with you with a lot of energy away from the ponies. Once he's doing that, then I'd take him out on lead around the ponies and work with him.

As for the flies and the fox poop. Yeah, she'll never make the connection between the poop and the flies. But her reaction to the flies reveals to me that she's a bit wired and loaded up. A dog that is channeled won't be bothered so much by those things. So if you can get her to express her deeper energy into pushing and biting, she won't be so "electric", and likely the flies won't bother her so much.

Of course the best thing would be to work with her to channel her desire to go after the fox poop into pushing and biting. If you can get her to channel that energy to you instead of going after the poop, that will give her an outlet to channel her desire in the moment, so you can avoid the fox poop to begin with, while still fulfilling her emotional need to ground her energy, which is all she's looking for when she gets into it.

Hope that helps.

Thanks John. I’m glad you like it and appreciate your comment. Hopefully I’ll finish up the half written posts stored on my computer and get them on the blog. Wish me luck.
