Any suggestions for a dog that really nips the food hand during pushing?
He's not trying to hurt you (I think) but he really pinches and leaves the food hand red and sore. My dog was a reluctant pusher, and never did anything like this. My friends dog is super eager, took to pushing right away but won't tug at all. He really doesn't want to continue because of it. |

Could try using a latex or rubber glove to help provide a barrier? One of my dogs is a bit of a nipper when pushing, though apparently not as much as your friend's dog. But I wear a glove sometimes, especially when it's cold out, and I don't get nipped when I'm wearing the glove. But I can feel her occasionally grabbing a part of the glove when she pushes, so in that moment I know the glove saved my skin. Didn't wear a glove today, and I have a couple of little spots on my hand from pushing at dinner.

That's a good idea, I passed it on but Mark says either the dog is biting less or his hand is toughening up, or some combination. He might try the glove, but worried it would interfere with his coordination.
