The Very Best Leash for Training and Play

If you’re looking for the best possible 50 foot-long leash to use while training or playing with your dog, you’ve come to the right place. Your satisfaction is GUARANTEED.

As a dog trainer, it’s extremely important to me to have a leash that’s long enough to allow my dogs to run while still giving me total control. I had to have the best possible leash CUSTOM MADE – because you basically can’t find a leash like this in your local pet shop. Or online, for that matter.

If you can even find a leash that’s long enough, it will inevitably be made from inferior material, in the wrong color, and be too expensive. My goal is for you to see for yourself how having the right leash, the BEST leash, actually makes a huge difference when you’re working with your dog – so I’m keeping these affordable to make it easy for you to have that experience.

Hereʼs what makes this the ultimate dog leash:

  • 50 feet long. Long enough that your dog can actually run.
  • 1″ nylon. This leash has substance. It lies flat, not prone to tangles, and glides easily through your hands, even when wet. It feels right!
  • Unmistakable bright Hunter Orange color. You cannot miss this leash, as itʼs very visible against the natural landscape.
  • You will be the envy of all the short-leashed people out there.
  • Great for dog training. You can train your dog as if they were off-leash, while still having the peace of mind that they wonʼt be able to run away.
  • Woven in the USA. Dyed in the USA. Made in the USA (with the exception of the bolt snap, which is imported).

Here’s a view that shows you just how long this leash is. I’m at one end, and my dog, Nola, is at the other end. You can click on the photo for a larger image.

My dog: off in the distance, and totally under control.

So you KNOW that you want an extra long dog leash but aren’t sure why you should order “the best dog training leash”…

Ok – you KNOW that you want an extra long leash. Maybe you don’t even need to hear how useful they are – you already understand that! What makes THIS leash so special? We’ll revisit the list above, only this time we’ll offer some comparisons to whatever else you might find out there.

  1. 50 feet long. Generally the longest leashes that you can find are a mere 30 feet long. 30 feet might seem long enough, but if your dog is bigger than a yorkie they won’t be able to run without quickly reaching the end of the line – which can actually be dangerous.

I’ve found that 50 feet is a great length, allowing most dogs to experience immense freedom of movement while you hold on to one end. Or if you choose to let the leash drag behind your dog, 50 feet gives you PLENTY of reaction time should your dog decide to chase the neighbor’s cat.
  2. Nylon. Do retailers ever try to use the leashes that they sell? For one thing, most long leashes that you find will be made with cotton. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m all for renewable resources (it’s just that hemp is so darn expensive!) – but cotton is the WRONG material for a leash.

Here’s why: Cotton creates a ton of friction when it slides through your hands, which can create serious burns (trust me, I’ve experienced it). Furthermore, as soon as cotton gets wet, it stiffens up. So after you’ve taken one spin on your early-morning-dew-soaked lawn, forget it! That cotton leash becomes a stiff mess of webbing as it dries, making it very difficult to manage.

Most likely, that stiff cotton leash will simply break the next time your dog gives a strong tug on it.

The nylon that we use is much smoother and softer (read: less friction as it slides through your hand) and it retains its pliability even after repeated exposure to moisture and the elements.
  3. 1 inch wide. Width matters. Those other leashes that you see that are 5/8 inches thick are much more difficult to manage, especially with any exposure to “weather”. They’re more likely to get tangled and knot up, and give you less to hold onto.

The 1 inch width of our leashes makes them very easy to grip, much less likely to tangle, and much easier to untie should a knot form in the webbing. Plus it’s STRONGER! Think about it – these leashes are nearly DOUBLE the width of what you’d find elsewhere – an appropriate width that gives you the control you need without becoming unwieldy.
  4. Hunter Orange Color. When your dog is running in the opposite direction, do you want to spend that extra second hunting for the nice green or black leash as it whips through the grass? No way!

The hunter orange color (I swear it’s the new black) will allow you to respond in a split second to grab the leash if you need to. It has added benefits if you go for walks in the woods during hunting season.

It also makes it easy for anyone who comes upon you and your dog (perhaps when you’re playing fetch at the park) to see that your dog is on-leash and under your control even when at a distance. I’ve found that this awareness actually fosters greater responsibility in the OTHER dog owners I encounter as well – in fact, many of them ask me where I got my awesome leash!
  5. Made in the USA – and satisfaction guaranteed. This leash is a great product made by great people right here in the States. You KNOW that any other leash you get, pretty much anywhere, is imported. It was important to us, once we figured out exactly what kind of leash we wanted, to ensure that as much of our production took place stateside.

As for the guarantee – if the leash doesn’t exceed your expectations of what a long leash should be, just return it within 30 days and I’ll refund your purchase price, no questions asked.
  6. It’s all of the qualities mentioned above that make this leash perfect for dog training – and something that will inspire the people you encounter to ask you where you got it (please send them my way!).

Here’s why these extra long leashes are perfect for training and play

Have you ever had your dog get away from you?

Do you remember the frustration of the dog running away every time you got within a few feet to try and grab their collar (or the end of a short leash)?

Or perhaps you have seen your dog run towards traffic as you are running after it?

Using this leash, you only have to get within 50 feet of your dog to regain complete control.

Have you ever wanted to give your dog a little freedom at the park, but been afraid of violating the local leash law?

Now you can give your dog that freedom while avoiding costly animal control violations. I can’t guarantee you won’t get a ticket – but I can tell you that the animal control officers appreciate that you’re at least honoring the spirit of the leash law.

And this leash is long enough to accommodate a spirited game of fetch.

Have you ever tried to train your dog to be off leash only to have your dog take off after a cat or a squirrel because they’re not quite ready?

You can let this leash drag behind your dog, freeing you up to focus on your training and giving your dog the feeling of being off-leash – but quickly grab the leash if the need arises.

A proven solution from a dog trainer

Most people have the goal of having a dog who’s obedient when they’re off-leash. However, if you train your dog using a tight/short leash, your dog learns to depend on the feedback from the leash. This dependence makes a transition to off-leash obedience very difficult.

When you use a long lead (that simply drags on the ground behind your dog as a safety mechanism for the moments when your dog decides to take off), your dog learns how to do things such as coming when called and heeling without the restriction of a leash from the get-go.

So you’re actually training them to do things “off-leash” from the very beginning! The transition back to “on-lead” (i.e. with you actually holding the leash) is much easier than the other way around.

With our 50 foot dog leash, you are buying not only a quality dog-trainer-approved leash that’s made in the U.S.A., you are buying years of enjoyable play time, training time, and walks with your dog.

This leash, the best dog training leash that you’ll find, can be yours for $33.95 plus S&H. Try it out. If it doesnʼt revolutionize your dog playtime and/or dog training experience within 30 days, Iʼll quickly refund your purchase.

    Amazing Results!

I’ve been pushing and playing tug with my 1 year old Lab (Aengus) each morning for the past month or so and the results have been tremendous. Before I started using NDT techniques, Aengus would give all of his energy to other dogs but not much to me or my wife.

Now, he leaps at me when we are pushing and tugging. I’ve also taught him to speak in the last couple of weeks and this really gets his energy up during our exercises. His recall over the past month has progressed to the point where I can immediately call him away from playing with other dogs. We also regularly play hide and seek with him and he comes charging after the hidden person.

My relationship with Aengus is so much more satisfying now and I look forward to making the bond even stronger. Thanks!

    Extremely Helpful

First, I'd like to thank you for the Natural Dog Training DVDs. They are extremely helpful! I especially like the detail on the pushing exercise because I'd tried pushing before with my dog, and he'd balked - I hadn't understood all of the mechanics until I saw you perform the exercise. I'm sure I'll be able to help Tyler push now. :) I've been trying to work with him in many ways, and this is by far the most helpful. My current goal is to get him to pass the AKC Canine Good Citizen test (just because). We're also going to be starting agility classes (again) soon. No other training method has been as effective as this one, and I look forward to training sessions now (Tyler does, too!).

    A Significant Shift

I received the DVDs and have watched disc 1. I want to focus on really getting the information from the first disc down before watching the second disc. I'm glad I bought the DVDs as seeing the action really helped me. I'm willing to try anything that falls within my range of "humane" with Tucker and so far, pushing and playing tug (where he always wins) has helped him overall to relax. He was already fairly relaxed (except around the neighbor's dogs) but I'm noticing he's more relaxed in more instances than before. And I'll testify that it's because of the pushing, the massage, and the tugging.

By the way, this morning, I consciously focused on keeping my own energy relaxed when feeding our 5 house dogs (I feed them all at the same time in the kennel kitchen/office, which is a small space); and as I asked each one to sit or lie down, I massaged them in a relaxing way, and by golly!, I noticed a significant shift. Feeding time can be frenzy time with the assortment we have: a JRT, a Bischon/Poodle mix, a Rottie, deaf Moses, and Tucker (aka the Giant NM Brown Dog), but I've been working on making it more of a quiet time.

A Place of Balance and Harmony

Natural Dog Training isn't about training. It's about connecting. Connecting to your dog on a level that no other form of training can accomplish. And through this connection, the training comes naturally.

Our dogs are doing great! Especially Roxy:) I've seen her handle some things recently that would have just thrown her over the edge before. Like a friend's dog she never met, running right up to her nose, and then pushing into her chest, and all Roxy did was sniff him. How awesome is that? :)

    Absolutely Would Recommend

Hi Neil, I'm glad to report that Martine is much more calm thanks to your techniques. He does not go hog wild when guests enter the house. Why? Because I redirect his energy to me.

I go up to complete strangers who are struggling with their dogs and recommend your dvd.

My Dog is So Attentive Now

I'm using pushing in an at times distracting environment. My dog is really keyed into me and getting more so now that I'm doing it regularly.

It's a great way to train a dog.

    Our conversation really helped me...

Just wanted to thank you again for taking the time to train the neurotic new mom :). I found that our conversation helped redirect me. It also reminded me to chill out, let him be a puppy and not expect so much from him all while trying to better manage his environment and being more observant to his needs and helping fulfill them.

Looking forward to working with you in the future! Have a good day and thanks for being there for us.

Thinking about a call? Do it!

If anyone is thinking about scheduling a call with Neil-- DO IT! I had an hour long call with him to discuss my new dog Nelly and some of the issues we'd been dealing with. She was adopted from the local kill shelter and I'd only had her for about 2.5 weeks when we had the call, but I wanted to make sure I had a good understanding of how to implement the techniques and see if I was missing anything before I got too far in.

Sure enough, on the call Neil was able to determine that I had pretty much neglected incorporating any sort of relaxation into our training. Nelly is very reactive on walks when she sees another dog, a squirrel, etc. She also has a lot of resistance to her crate and has to be physically manipulated into it. I thought it was simply more pushing and more tug to get that energy out, but the key is for her to able to relax WHILE experiencing higher levels of attraction and energy.

The biggest breakthrough though was that Neil was able to nail down exactly what I felt in the moments when Nelly "freaked" out, and suggested that I could take a different approach. I was all in my head and not "feeling" what Nelly needed during these times, and this was counterproductive to trying to get past these hurdles. It's easy to disregard how much how you feel and think affects training and your relationship, but it is a critical component.

The call ranged from talking about Nelly to reflecting on how I view relationships with dogs in general. The great thing is that his questions enable you to make your own realizations about what is going on with you and your dog. I thought I had way more than an hour's worth of content, but Neil was able to connect-the-dots and get down to the true "problem".

It's definitely worth having a call if you've got questions or concerns. I've started to implement what we discussed and it's already making a noticeable difference!

    Highly Recommend a Coaching Session

As one on one training wasn't an option for me and I don't consider myself a quick study when it come to trying and learn and understand dog training from a book or reading websites articles. So I contacted Neil and thanks to modern technology and Skype I arranged a phone consultation so that we could discuss were I'm at with NDT and how to move forward with Ty's training. It was GREAT, not only to be able to chat with some one who's been down the road I'm on but to have that help in understanding some of the ideas in NDT. I'm sure I'm looking at Ty in a different more positive light since chatting with Neil.

A big thanks to Neil for his time (as it did get late for him due to our time difference) and I look forward to our next chat. I do highly recommend to anyone who feels 'stuck' with their training or not understand something to arrange a chat instead of like I was fumbling around not fully understand whether what I was doing was right or not.

    It really does help.

Natural Dog Training works - and is FUN!

Neil has an extraordinary understanding of dogs. Just as importantly, he understands people too. After all, successful dog training is at least as much about training us as training our dogs! Neil sensitively and generously shares his wealth of knowledge about dog behavior, clearly explaining and modeling effective dog training techniques. Through Neil, I learned to channel my dog's "energetic" nature and tap into her deepest canine desires so that she wanted to behave in a way that met my expectations. Even though I have lived with dogs for nearly my entire life, I am grateful to Neil, because he taught me more about dogs than I ever knew and he helped me to truly become my dog's best friend.

Hi Neil -- Just wanted to let you know that ever since your visit (when you dropped off a copy of your wonderful DVD), Lexie and I have gotten back into training nearly every day -- lots of pushing, re-direction of energy, long distance downs and stays, comes, sits and stays, and heeling. Prompted by your reminders and the DVD, getting back into pushing has truly made a difference. Lexie seems way more settled and the overly energetic/aggressive stuff has stopped.

She's much more calm around other dogs, even if they get excited around her. I'll always need to be cautious with her around other dogs, but Val and I both have noticed that she's way better now -- and I've noticed that in energetic situations, she is more likely to turn to me to help redirect her energy. So, another testimonial -- natural dog training works! To top it off, Lexie and I both have fun with it.
